Press Release – Rhythm Is A Cancer (Single Release)

Halcyon Hope returns with “Rhythm Is A Cancer”, a visceral new single that captures the raw poetry of disillusionment. Recorded at the band’s studio in Southern Denmark and mixed by Benjamin Mlynek, the track introduces Sadie — known on stage as Rhythm, a woman drifting through the ruins of her own longing. Floating on a haze of substance abuse and hollow encounters, she moves through life with a fragile grace, waiting for miracles that never arrive.
The single is accompanied by a fully animated lyric video, bringing Sadie’s tragic beauty to life in motion — a dreamlike visual narrative that mirrors the song’s hypnotic descent into obsession and emotional paralysis.
Musically, “Rhythm Is A Cancer” is Halcyon Hope at their most cinematic: pulsing rhythms intertwine with darkly melodic guitars, crafting a sound that’s equal parts seductive and despairing. The song is both confession and eulogy — an unflinching look at the ways we chase feeling when numbness becomes the norm.
Within its shimmering melancholy lies a brutal honesty: Sadie is not merely a character, but an echo of a generation caught between overstimulation and emptiness, seeking authenticity in a world that rewards performance.
As part of Halcyon Hope’s forthcoming multi-EP project — exploring the five stages of grief — “Rhythm Is A Cancer” represents the stage of Depression, translating inner collapse into art. Critics have already dubbed the band’s sound “an auditory form of Nordic Noir” — where heartbreak, beauty, and existential despair intertwine.
“Rhythm Is A Cancer” is not just a song; it’s a mirror — seductive, sorrowful, and uncomfortably real.

QUOTES
With virtually zero filler tracks on the record, “Onward To Fracture Town” is exactly the kind of emo revivalist experience us older fans are looking for when we need our regular nostalgia fix to the foundations of the genre. That’s not to say the record doesn’t have its merits beyond that, because if anything, it’s quite certainly the very best emo/rock album produced by a Danish band to date.
…A band that has plenty of potential to break out of their homeland. They boast a set of songs that are capable of achieving that. It’s clearly a matter of not if, but when for Halcyon Hope.
Onward to fracture town’ offers a collection of poppy, energetic and melodic emo driven rock songs with opener ‘Against the Wall’ as a personal highlight.
This album reminds me of a time when I really liked emo and post-hardcore. It almost makes me feel nostalgic of the bands I once listened to on repeat. It’s well written, performed well and mixed brilliantly.
